Fire propagation
and reaction of materials to fire
At the
Fire
Laboratory, placed at
The School of Building Construction (EPSEB),
we participate in the following research
lines:
- Fire and smoke propagation
In collaboration with
"Fire Brigades of Catalonia" we
are working on the analysis of the propagation
of fires in buildings. We reproduce real
fires by computer simulation using the software
Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) developed
by the National Institute of Standards and
Technology (www.nist.gov). The comparison
between numerical results and the in
situ observations allows us to extract
conclusions about the validity of the hypothesis
made and the influence of different factors.
- Reaction of materials to fire
We are collaborating in the
development of materials and construction
products with a better behavior to fire.
