Two-phase flows in microgravity
Several technological processes and life-sustaining
systems in the absence of gravity could be optimized
with the development of procedures for the efficient
generation and control of bubbles. By optimizing the contact
surface between the two phases, both for thermal and
diffusive interchange,
bubbles of small and controlled size can be generated.
Preliminary research
has led to the development of a very efficient new
concept of two-phase flow generation (BUBGEN). The goals
in this topic are the following:
- Experimental characterization of the BUBGEN
injector.
- Study of the dynamics of an ensemble of bubbles
in the absence of gravity.
- Study of the feasibility of a low cost drop tower
for microgravity
experiments.
